Responsible AI in Every Classroom Curriculum

The “Responsible AI in Every Classroom” curriculum integrates AI, data science, and coding with MIT App Inventor to give K-12 students starting their AI journeys a deeper and more holistic foundation in AI. All learning activities in the curriculum are aligned with the UNESCO AI Competency Framework for Students, promoting a holistic and student-centered approach to AI education. Additionally, every unit takes students through the four iterative cycles of Investigate & Question, Debate & Discuss, Analyze & Evaluate, and Design & Create to delve into the application areas of AI, ethics, data science, and coding with MIT App Inventor.

UNESCO AI Competency Framework for Students

The UNESCO AI Competency Framework for Students articulates the knowledge, skills, and attitudes K-12 students should acquire in order to understand and engage with AI safely and meaningfully for a sustainable, inclusive, and human-centred future. The framework proposes competencies organized across four dimensions—human-centred mindset, ethics of AI, AI techniques and applications, and AI system design—mapped across three progression levels of Understand, Apply, and Create.
